Two passenger trains meet in downtown Toronto, Ontario under a blanket of rainy mist. VIA Rail's Canadian runs as a luxury passenger train between Toronto and Vancouver and return, three times a week. The consist features 1950's-era Budd Co. stainless steel coaches, vista dome "park" cars, sleeping compartment "manor" cars, dining cars, and observation dome cars for the rear of each train.
VIA train #1 is seen deadheading to Toronto Union Station from VIA's Toronto Maintenance Centre, where it has been cleaned up, bedsheets laundered, foods replenished, and wiped clean top to bottom for it's journey to Vancouver.
Rushing inbound from the Airport is a Union-Pearson Express shuttle, powered by two passenger cars fitted with Cummins diesel engines underneath. In the background, a handful of GO trains wait out the hours between morning and evening rush hours, ready to take commuters home to neighbourhoods and suburbs all over the Greater Toronto Area.
